WHAT:

Groundbreaking for the West Falls Church & Joint Campus Revitalization District Multimodal Transportation Project, near the George Mason High School campus and future Little City Commons development.

WHO:

The City of Falls Church and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), in partnership with EYA, LLC.

WHEN:

Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. (rain or shine)

WHERE:

George Mason High School parking lot (adjacent to Haycock Road) located at 7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA, 22046.

INFORMATION:

City of Falls Church Mayor David P. Tarter, City of Falls Church Council Member and NVTA Member David Snyder, and NVTA Chairman Martin Nohe, along with representatives from EYA, LLC and other regional leaders, will break ground on the West Falls Church Transportation Project, funded with NVTA’s regional revenues in the amount of $15.7 million. The purpose of the West Falls Church Transportation project is to reduce congestion and increase safety near the George Mason High School Campus, the future Little City Commons development, and the neighboring West Falls Church Metro Station in Fairfax County.

Improvements include intersection upgrades at or near the Chestnut Street and West Broad Street/Route 7 intersection, Haycock Road and West Broad Street/Route 7 intersection, and Haycock Road and Schools’ Access Road Intersection; a HAWK (high-intensity pedestrian activated crosswalk) on Haycock Road; sidewalk widenings; bus stop enhancements; bicycle access upgrades; and utility undergrounding and relocation. The timing of the project will be coordinated with the new George Mason High School construction and future Little City Commons development.
