Our Role

The Governance and Personnel Committee plays a key role in maintaining the governance structure through policy and bylaw oversight and the annual development of the Authority’s legislative program. The Committee coordinates and develops strategies to work effectively with members of the Virginia General Assembly.

The committee also supports the Authority’s success by addressing special assignments from the Chair as needed.

Membership

The Committee shall consist of five (5) members of the NVTA appointed by the Chair for staggered two-year terms.

Meeting Schedule

The GPC is scheduled to meet on the second Thursday of each month, typically at 5:30 PM, unless a meeting is deemed unnecessary for that particular month.

NVTA Charge

This committee shall be responsible for the following:

  • Periodic review and procedural amendments to the Bylaws.
  • Personnel issues including the review and recommendation of staff that report to the Authority.
  • Review of the Authority’s Legislative Program.
  • Development of policies and procedures related to governance and personnel of the Authority such as a policy for participation by members of the Authority in meetings by electronic communication means “in accordance with the statute.”
  • Other special assignments as directed by the Chair of the Authority.

Governance

Overseeing the frameworks and processes that ensure the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) operates efficiently, ethically, and in alignment with its goals and legal requirements.

Statute:

The Authority may, in its discretion, form additional advisory committees. The NVTA Bylaws established the Governance and Personnel Committee as one of three standing committees.
