Under Construction: Route 7 at Battlefield Parkway in the Town of Leesburg

Note: A “pardon our dust” meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at John W. Tolbert Jr. Elementary School, 691 Potomac Station Drive, Leesburg, VA 20176.
This project is replacing the traffic signal at Route 7 (East Market Street) and Battlefield Parkway with a grade-separated interchange.

Other improvements include:

Removing the signal at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive and modifying the intersection.
Adding auxiliary lanes on eastbound Route 7 from the Leesburg Bypass to the new Battlefield Parkway interchange, and from the Battlefield Parkway interchange to River Creek Parkway.
Constructing a shared-use path along eastbound Battlefield Parkway and a sidewalk along westbound Battlefield Parkway.

Estimated Costs
Preliminary Engineering – $4 million
Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation – $7.3 million
Construction – $66 million
Total – $77.3 million

This project is financed with federal, state (including Revenue Sharing), town, Loudoun County and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funding.

Within the project limits, Route 7 averages 75,000 vehicles a day, Battlefield Parkway averages 14,000 and Cardinal Park Drive averages 6,400.
Benefits
The project aims to relieve congestion, improve safety and enhance mobility for bicyclists and pedestrians along the corridor.
