Virginia Transit Association (VTA) Webinar Panel: “Nimble Transit Network Planning”

August 21, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

VTA Webinar Panel: “Nimble Transit Network Planning”Webinar: Friday, August 21 from 1PM to 2PM

During this webinar, panelists will discuss how the COVID-19 public health emergency has forced agencies to rethink how they plan transit in both the short term (recovery, restarting operations, etc.) and the long term (planning for recovery, capital investments, etc.).  The three panelists bring a variety of relevant perspectives – statewide, regional, and local.

Jennifer DeBruhl, DRPT’s Chief of Public Transportation, will provide the Commonwealth’s perspective about how ongoing transit planning efforts can support efforts to recover from the COVID-19 public health emergency. Since DRPT provides technical and funding resources to transit agencies across the Commonwealth, DRPT is committed to supporting transit-focused aspects of the COVID-19 recovery.

Monica Backmon, Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, will provide a regional perspective and share an overview of NVTA’s analysis regarding post-COVID-19 transportation investments.  None of us have a crystal ball, but NVTA’s analysis is asking some challenging questions, such as will the post-COVID-19 world change the type of transportation investments are needed or shift the priorities to different modes?

Martin Barna, Director of Planning and Scheduling at DASH, will provide an overview of how DASH, a transit provider in Northern Virginia, has responded to the COVID-19 public health emergency, both during the emergency and as part of the City of Alexandria’s recovery plans.  He will also discuss how the implementation of DASH’s Transit Vision Plan, a complete re-imagining of their entire system, has required DASH to pivot and adapt to a post-COVID-19 world.
