The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) is seeking public input on its list of 41 candidate transportation projects submitted by 13 jurisdictions and agencies for NVTA regional funding consideration, as part of its FY2020-2025 Six Year Program. The projects being evaluated cover multiple modes of transportation, including roadways, transit and pedestrian/bicycle pathways.

The public is invited to learn more about and comment on NVTA’s candidate projects during the public comment period, occurring now through 11:59 p.m. May 24, 2020. The project list, individual project description forms, maps and detailed analyses are available at: https://thenovaauthority.org/fy2024-2025-six-year-program-update/.

Public input is an important part of the Six Year Program process. We welcome your feedback and all comments will be reviewed.

We will be holding a Six Year Program Public Hearing on May 14, 2020 at NVTA’s offices: 3040 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Fairfax, VA 22031. However, due to COVID-19 precautions and compliance with Governor Northam’s Stay at Home Order outlined in Executive Order Fifty-Five, the public is strongly encouraged to stay home and provide comments on the candidate project list in one of the following ways:

  • Email: SYPcomment@TheNoVAAuthority.org
  • Online: See submission form below
  • Mail: Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, 3040 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Fairfax, VA 22031

**First and Last Name, Contact Information, Comment on Project and Zip Code are required for the above submissions.

If interested in providing public testimony over the phone during the Public Hearing, you will need to pre-register by contacting NVTA at 703-642-4652 or email SYPcomment@TheNoVAAuthority.org by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2020. Please make sure you provide your name, contact phone number, and residential zip code. A NVTA staff member will be in touch to schedule your time for comment before the Authority. Please note, any residents who provide testimony in-person will go first, and then call-ins will follow. All testimony provided during the Public Hearing will be limited to three minutes.

While there is an opportunity for the public to provide testimony in-person during the Public Hearing, it is strongly encouraged that Northern Virginians provide comments electronically or via postal service through May 24, 2020.  Residents who do choose to attend the Public Hearing in-person should sign up in advance in one of three ways:

**All speakers who are testifying in-person must be signed in by 7:15 p.m. and will be required to present in front of a laptop computer for live-streaming purposes.

The Public Hearing is expected to conclude around 8:00 p.m. unless there are individuals present who have not had the opportunity to speak. Safe social distancing practices will be enforced. Upon arrival, all attendees will be required to sanitize their hands and wear a face covering before entering the meeting space. Attendees may also undergo a thermal scan prior to any admittance.

While the Public Hearing will commence at NVTA’s offices (3040 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Fairfax, VA 22031) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020, directly following a brief presentation on the Six Year Program Process, the Hearing can also be viewed remotely via Facebook Live on the Authority’s page (@TheNVTA).

Immediately following the Six Year Program Update Public Hearing, the Authority’s regularly scheduled business meeting will commence. As part of the safety precautions in place, the business meeting will also be live streamed via Facebook Live on the Authority’s page (@TheNVTA).

The Authority will not act on the FY2020-2025 Six Year Program after the Public Hearing on May 14, but will continue to receive comment through 11:59 p.m. May 24, 2020. Please note all written comments submitted during the Public Comment Period will be distributed to and shared with the Authority. The Authority is anticipated to adopt the Six Year Program Update at the Authority Meeting on July 9, 2020.

Please keep an eye on this webpage, events calendar, and Facebook (@TheNVTA) and Twitter (@NVTAuthority) pages, for the latest updates on Six Year Program activities and public comment period.

We are taking an abundance of caution and cancelling this year’s Open House, keeping your safety top of mind. Instead, all materials that were to be on display at the previously scheduled Open House, along with Frequently Asked Questions, are accessible at www.thenovaauthority.org/fy2024-2025-six-year-program-update/, under the Public Engagement phase.

As NVTA is encouraging the public to stay home and provide comments through alternate ways, a previously scheduled shuttle bus service from Dunn-Loring-Merrifield Metrorail Station to the public hearing will no longer be available.

Feel free to contact us at SYPcomment@TheNoVAAuthority.org or 703-642-4652 with any questions.
